Had the absolute fortune to be listening to music in Havanas Coffee Shop on Prestbury Road, Cheltenham, today (3 October) and an awesome stream was playing (especially โBen Reelโ) over their speaker system, when the announcer said โMystery Train Radioโ. I was intrigued ... who is โMystery Train Radioโ? And what a very cool name! A bit of digging on my smartphone revealed this totally unique radio station is actually based in Cheltenham - wow! I gave them a shout out on my Twitter account and got some lovely replies from the Show and new followers. I am hooked!! This is not local amateurs, this is a very slick production.
Hey Tarquin. Thanks for the messages via twitter. Brilliant to know you found us via 'Havanas Coffee Shop' today. How brilliant they were playing us in the store! We must go thank them before too long - and grab some breaky or coffee & cake. Thanks for taking the trouble to seek us out on your phone... as it happens we are launching our dedicated smartphone apps formally tomorrow. They've just been published - just search for 'Mystery Train Radio' on the Apple App Store or via The Google Play Store. Seems you found us via a smart speaker today. Anyway... brilliant to have you aboard. All the best MTRHQ.
Please wait...
Another discovery on MT. First Aid Kit – Cedar Lane. Fantastic harmonies.
Thanks for the music tonight Alex. Please take care of yourself as you take care of your family. Ed
Thanks Ed. Your email to the studio got to me late… but managed to read out the fact you enjoyed the Judy Collins track ๐ Thanks tons for tuning in and I trust the ribs and yard bird tasted mighty fine! ๐
Thanks Alex. Let me know when you are close to Memphis. Ed
Will do Ed! All the best from Gloucestershire / UK ๐
Hi
Just wanted to say โWow!โ What a brilliant station! Discovered you via the Radio Garden App by just having a look around the stations and you appeared and I just love what Iโm hearing!
And Iโm nearby on the edge of the Cotswolds in Evesham…
You got yourself another listener and Iโll be recommending you to my friends…?
Andy
Isn’t Radio Garden a neat app Andrew! The only problem is we find as a station it doesn’t work all the time. Service can be unreliable. See a full list of reliable apps @ http://www.mysterytrainradio.com/listen/. Thrilled you found us by chance or by searching for stations locally(ish). Thanks so much for spreading the word about MTR ๐ Feel free to let us know about the music you particularly enjoy hearing or artists you enjoy generally. Thanks again for the message here… lovely to have you aboard! ๐
Thought I need to pass this on to you – John Kilzer passed away suddenly today in Memphis, Tennessee. John was a singer songwriter, a Methodist pastor, and a true helping hand to recovering addicts in the Memphis area. You folks in the U.K. seemed to appreciate his early rock and roll work than the majority of the USA. He was well known to Memphis musicians.
Oh Ed. So sorry to hear this news! We’d only discovered John’s music relatively recently. A track or 2 is played out regularly as part of our playlist of songs – these being aired throughout the day – and I know Alex has played a song of John’s on his show. We were aware of John’s association and love for Memphis and his desire to help others in need. Please accept our deepest condolences at this sad time.
To The Mystery Train Radio, I found out your from the Putumayo’s facebook. I Love all the songs have been singing. Just amazing. My best regards, Maria Hill
Great to hear you heard of us through the ‘Putumayo World Music’ facebook page Maria! It’s a brilliant to share this fantastic program with the listeners of ‘Mystery Train Radio’. We are very happy to hear you have been enjoying the music :))) All the best.
